How do you choose an agency for an agribusiness company?

Atualizado em 22 de julho de 2026

Demand three objective proofs from the agency: mastery of the sector's calendar, because agribusiness buys on the rhythm of the harvest, not the commercial month; real repertoire in your chain, whether it is inputs, machinery or services; and the ability to produce technical content without depending on you to write everything. Whoever promises to "understand agro" needs to demonstrate it, not just declare it.

What agribusiness demands differently

Agribusiness runs on its own clock. The purchase decision for seed, crop protection or machinery follows the planning, planting, treatment and harvest cycle of each crop, and communication that lands outside the right window turns into noise. An agency that does not know how to build a media plan around that calendar will burn budget advertising at the wrong moment.

There is also the language. The rural producer notices in seconds when the copy was written by someone who has never set foot on a farm: the wrong term, an urban promise, a shopping-mall advertising tone. And the channel changes: in agribusiness, WhatsApp, relationships with dealerships, industry trade shows and technical video content weigh as much as advertising. The agency needs to operate that mix, not just the Instagram feed.

Objective checklist to evaluate

  1. Calendar: ask for an example of an annual marketing plan tied to your segment's harvest cycle. If the answer is a calendar of commemorative dates, rule it out.
  2. Repertoire in the chain: whoever serves a machinery dealership needs to understand inventory, parts and after-sales, as we detail in the answer on marketing for machinery dealerships. Whoever sells inputs needs to understand application windows and basic agronomy.
  3. Technical content production: ask who writes and who films. If everything depends on you producing the brief and reviewing every term, the agency has become just a posting arm.
  4. Presence in the field: confirm whether the team goes to the farm, the store and the trade show to capture real material, or whether it works only with stock images.
  5. Strategy before media: demand a diagnosis of your business funnel before any advertising, as we propose in our strategy work.

In practice, in the countryside

Here in the Northwest of São Paulo state, agribusiness is not a niche, it is the base of the economy, and even so we see companies in the sector hiring agencies that have never left the city to film. In our operation in Birigui, the work starts with immersion in the business: understanding the crop, the sales cycle and the buyer profile before turning on the camera. For those starting from zero in digital, we lay out the initial path in the answer on where to start agribusiness marketing. The final criterion is simple: the right agency speaks your client's language without a translator.

If your agribusiness company is evaluating agencies and wants a second read on the criteria, we talk through your case with no commitment. Just message us on WhatsApp.

Can a generalist agency serve an agribusiness company well?

It can, if it runs a real immersion process and has the humility to learn the sector alongside the client. The problem is not being a generalist, it is promising a repertoire it does not have and packaging agribusiness as if it were regular retail.

What should I ask to find out if the agency understands agribusiness?

Ask how it plans media around the harvest calendar, which channels it uses to talk to the rural producer, and who is going to write the technical copy. A vague answer to these three questions is a warning sign.
